More than 300 addresses where citizens can submit their waste for recycling in Serbia is added into Recycling Address book on of Green initiative website, under category “Watch out garbage!“.

Recycling Address book is unique and comprehensive database of recycling islands, of public  utility companies, as well as of private operators with a permit for the collection, management and treatment of waste in Serbia.

Recycling Address book now offers citizens information about address of 115 locations on which they can deliver waste paper,  112 locations for plastics , 65 for metal, 10 for glass and 5 for electronic and electrical waste. So far, the database of recycling  islands includes 20 municipalities and cities in Serbia.

Through recycling database, each citizen is able to  find out where  in the place where he/she lives, can deliver particular type of waste for recycling. The database gives users the ability to find out the address, street number of recycling islands in their city or place they live in,   as well as information on what type of waste that they can deliver in a particular recycling island (paper, PET, metal, glass, electronic or electrical waste).

Recycling  address book is created as part of Green initiative activities, a network of 22 civil society organizations, which in cooperation with the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) ​​and with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), implements activities oriented towards stimulation of primary waste selection at the local and national level.

In addition to increasing awareness of citizens on locations of recycling island in Serbia, we expect that the Recycling Address book will stimulate participation of citizens, recycling businesses and local institutions in collecting recyclable materials, and thus encourage recycling.

We invite all citizens, recycling operators and stakeholders in waste management, to continue to send information about the locations of recycling islands and thus encourage the selection of primary and recycled. Data can be sent through the  Green initiative website, category Report section.

Every day in Serbia 5,000 tons of waste ends up on landfills, while each of us leave behind, on average, over 360kg of waste per year. Almost half of that waste is disposed on illegal dumps near rivers, city squares and parks for children. In the EU countries, in average, 40 per cent of waste is being recycled per year, while in Serbia the percentage of recycled material is four times smaller. In Serbia every year about 50 million euros it thrown away on landfills in the form of secondary waste that could have been be recycled.
