Recommendations and guidelines formulated on yesterday’s “Environment” Work Group session of National Convent on EU, will be addressed to researchers  who will conduct analysis on quality and implementation of waste management local plans, based on a field research in local self governments, which will be presented in March 2012.

Participants in discussion pointed out that lack of transparency and unavailability of data on realization of Law on waste management and implementation of local plans,  and emphasised on problem of lack of capacity of local self governments in sloving problems in waste management field.

Among other recommendations, it was also pointed out that while making action plans in environment and waste management, goals sholud be more realistic and  with achievable deadlines

Goran Vujic, assistant professor at Faculty of technical at the University of Novi Sad, one of dicsussion partitipants, stated that by current capaticies we dispose 10% of total waste on sanitary landfils, and by next year that percentage should be 22%. Also, that acording to EU standards, by year 2016, 35% of biodegradable materials which is now being desposed on landfils, sholud be recycled.

Recommendations and guidelines of Work gorup, that was organized within Green initiative by European movement in Serbia, along with results of field research in local self governments will be presented to decission makers, representatives of Public Utility Companies and business sector.
