With an activity of exchange of PET, pupils from primary school “Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj” from Krusevac village Mudrakovac, were given 1.000 books for 10,000 PET  collected bottles. Approximately 700 children from all grades and school district departments participated in the action called  “Your waste is a recycle material”, held on December 15, within  campaign “Get Planet Wise! Recycle!” which is being implemented as part of the activities of Green initiative oriented  towards stimulation of primary selection and recycling.

The environmental movement ”White Birch” organized this activity, whose implementation is provided by the Balkan Community Initiatives Fund (BCIF) in collaboration with the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) ​​and the Young Researchers of Serbia and with financial support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Public Utility Company for waste management joined the activity as well, and transported collected PET to their  recycling center.

Besides the exchange of PET, elementary school students, during the workshops, learned more about the proper handling of waste in everyday life and the consequences of the negligent waste disposal for the environment.

Jasmina Todorovic Pantelic, professor at the school, recalled that the objectives of the “Your waste is a recycle material” improvement in the habits of residents in the area of separation of waste and encourage linking all participants in the recycling process and added that the School also, through environmental Brigade, promotes the collection of recyclable materials as a regular practice. Recently they organized and collection of waste paper, and school  was given a small press for PET packaging activities and participants had the opportunity to work on it.

The central multimedia event of the “Your waste is a recycle material” will be held in Krusevac, on 26 May 2012th.
